Registration
-
We offer classes in tap, jazz, ballet, lyrical, acro, musical theater, and hip hop. From toddlers to adults, whether you're looking for a fun way to stay active or train at a competitive level, there’s something for everyone at Helmer Dance Studio.
-
You can register online at 2025-2026 Classes, or contact us for help choosing the best classes for your dancer. Our front desk team is happy to assist with placement.
-
We’re happy to let your dancer try a class to see if it’s a good fit! However, we’ve found that one class isn’t always enough to get a true feel for the experience. That’s why we recommend enrolling, trying it out for a full month, and then deciding whether to continue or withdraw. This gives your dancer time to settle in, build confidence, and really get a sense of the class.

Full dress code details can be found here: Dress Code.
Each style of dance requires specific attire for safety, comfort, and consistency in training. Hair should always be securely tied back and our general dress code is as follows:
Discover Dance: pink footless tights, leotard, bare feet.
Ballet: Leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, and hair in a bun.
Jazz/Lyrical: Leotard or fitted dance top, dance shorts or leggings, tan turners (half soles).
Tap/Jazz: Black dancewear, tan jazz shoes, and tan tap shoes.
Hip Hop: Comfortable, athletic clothing, clean sneakers used only for class, and black hip hop sneakers for recital.
Acro: Leotard or fitted tank, dance shorts, bare feet.
-
We encourage dancers to complete the full season to help build resilience, commitment, and teamwork. However, if you choose to withdraw, a Withdrawal Form must be submitted. Forms are available online under the “Studio News”section.
Please note: Tuition is due through the month of withdrawal, regardless of the date the form is submitted.

Yes! Our year-end recital is a highlight of the season and gives dancers the opportunity to perform on stage in a professional setting. Recital details (including dates, costume fees, ticket information, and more) are shared mid-season through email and the parent portal.
-
All four of our classrooms are equipped with video cameras, allowing you to livestream and watch your dancer’s class from your phone, tablet, or computer. To access the livestream, you must register through your Parent Portal. Access is limited to your child's class during their scheduled class time. For the safety and privacy of all students, screen recordings and screenshots are strictly prohibited.

Please remember: if you did not hear it directly from us, it may not be accurate. Always reach out to the studio directly with any questions or concerns.
For serious matters, we ask that you call or meet with us in person rather than using email. Please do not use Facebook Messenger, personal texts, or other social media platforms to contact the studio. All communication should come through email, phone call, or an in-person conversation.
Emails sent to the office will be answered during regular business hours, Monday–Thursday.
Classroom Procedures
-
Each dancer has an assigned chair to wait at before class and to store belongings during class.
Teachers will come to the lobby to escort dancers into class. Students should wait at their assigned chairs until their teacher arrives.
-
Yes! Parents are always welcome to wait in the lobby/waiting room.
In fact, Discover Dance & Acro parents must stay at the studio during their dancer’s class.
-
Discover Dance & Acro: Parents are required to remain in the studio for the entire class.
Recreational & Competitive: Parents are not required to stay, but are always welcome.
-
Arriving late means missing important warm-ups and foundational technique. Please do your best to have your dancer in class on time.
-
Students should be picked up promptly after class. Late pick-ups (more than 15 minutes past closing time) will result in a $25 fee.
Emergency Procedures
-
Regular attendance is essential. Frequent absences impact both individual progress and class choreography.
Makeup classes are only available for illness or family emergencies (based on availability). Please contact the front desk to arrange a makeup time.
-
Sick students should stay home.
Injured students are welcome and encouraged to attend class and observe.
-
In the event of inclement weather, we will make a decision about evening classes by 2:00 PM. Please note that local school cancellations do not automatically mean the studio will be closed. Be sure to check your email and our social media for the latest updates.
If weather conditions worsen during class, we may decide to dismiss dancers early. If this occurs, we will notify families promptly via email.
For severe weather situations, such as tornadoes or major thunderstorms, students will be taken to our designated safe area near the center of the building by the bathrooms, where structural integrity is strongest. Their safety is our top priority.
-
HDS reserves the right to cancel any class with fewer than four students enrolled. Students affected by cancellations will be offered an alternate class or a refund.
If an individual class is canceled due to teacher absence, a make-up class will be scheduled. In the event of more than two weather-related closures on a given evening, make-up classes will also be offered.
If a student misses a class due to illness and you would like to make up the class, it is the parent’s responsibility to contact the office to arrange a make-up class. Please note: Make-up classes are not available for absences due to other activities, vacations, or reasons unrelated to illness.
-
From time to time, a qualified substitute may teach your child's class. All substitute teachers are trained in the HDS curriculum.
-
We observe the following closings:
Halloween Night
Thanksgiving Week
Winter Break: December–January (two weeks)
Spring Break: March (one week)
We hold classes on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, and Columbus Day.
For weather-related closures, check our website, your email, or social media.
Advancement Opportunities
-
Yes! In addition to our recreational program, we offer Performance Line and Company Line opportunities for dancers looking for more stage time, training, and team experience. Competition lines are by audition only.
-
Private lessons are available for dancers of all ages and can be booked directly through our website. The cost is $40.00 for a 30-minute session. Private lessons are a great way to focus on individual goals, improve technique, or prepare for performances and auditions!
You must be enrolled in at least 1 class at Helmer Dance Studio to receive the $40.00 rate. Non-members may still book private lessons but there will be a studio rental fee of $30.00 added on to the cost of the private.
